Mailvelope is an extension to encrypt and decrypt emails directly into your mail provider (Chrome and Firefox support only).
The following mail providers are supported:
• Gmail™ • GMX™ • Outlook.com™ • Posteo™ • WEB.DE™ • Yahoo!™
Here is how to install and configure your Mailvelope:
Google Chrome (email encryption)
- Open your Chrome browser and click on Window and Extensions
- Click on Get more extensions
- Look for Mailvelope
- Add to Chrome
- Here you can see your installed Mailvelope in the main Google Chrome toolbar
- Click on the lock icon and open the Options menu.
- Open Generate Key
- Generate your own key pair
- Your key pair was generated
- Here is your generated key pair
- Look for the public key of your recipient (https://pgp.mit.edu/) and insert the public key for the recipient you want to send
- Public key was imported
- Just log in to your account e.g. web.de Freemail and click on the compose button (pen icon)
- Write your email and click on Encrypt.
- Add the recipient you want to write an encrypted email.
- Now you can see your encrypted email. Just click on Transfer to put it in your webmail window.
- Your encrypted email in your webmail window. Click on Send to mail your encrypted email.
Google Chrome (email decryption)
- If your recipient receives an encrypted email, you will only see coded text.
- Mailvelope marks it with an overlay when your mouse hovers the coded text.
- If you want to decrypt the coded text, click on the envelope and type in your password to decrypt it.
- Now you can see the decrypted message.
